Birth certificate 12S

The secure birth certificate, known as the 12S certificate, is mandatory for obtaining a biometric passport. It is issued based on the civil registry.

Individuals born in Algeria and registered with the Embassy can request a 12S birth certificate (and those of their minor children born in Algeria) via the website of the Ministry of the Interior and Local Authorities at the following address:  http://demande12s.interieur.gov.dz

The 12S certificate is then generated and sent to the diplomatic and consular missions for issuance to the applicant.

The applicant must track the progress of their application through the "Application Tracking" tab on the homepage of the website where the application was submitted.

When the message "contact the relevant consulate to collect the 12S" is displayed, he must go to the civil status service, with an Algerian identity document, to personally collect his 12S certificate and/or those of his minor children (aged under 19).
